This is a question I get alot. If you are a destination wedding specialist, do I still need a wedding planner? The answer is, maybe, maybe not.
Destination Wedding Specialist
We know the resorts, packages and managing large groups. We will know the resort venues very well. 9 times out of 10 we will be able to find your ideal venue at a resort. Other than resort wedding packages, our main responsibility is coordinating the travel logistics. This includes securing a room block for all of your guests, managing the travel for all of your guests and organizing a few group activities.
On Site Wedding Coordinators
All resorts and most venues will have on site wedding coordinators. They will manage the day of details. They, along with your destination wedding specialist will be able to assist you with different wedding plan packages offered by the venue. Your on site coordinator will also help you with options for the photographer, florist, caterer's etc. As your destination wedding specialist, I work closely with you and the on site wedding coordinator.
Wedding Planners
You may have your heart set on a venue that does not have an established wedding infrastructure. In these cases, you will need a local wedding planner to help you with all of the details that go into planning a large party. It is very important to us a local wedding planner so that you can leverage their relationships with the local florists, photographers, etc. I will also work closely with you and your wedding coordinator.
Wedding Planner & an Onsite Coordinator?
There are some cases when a couple would choose to work with a wedding planner even when their venue has an onsite coordinator. Remember, the coordinator works for the venue. They usually will have a list of vendors that they can recommend. The wedding planner works for you. A planner can be useful if you have a very specific picture of what you want your wedding to look like.
Conclusion
For the most part, it is not necessary to hire a separate wedding planner for a destination wedding. Most resorts have a variety of options to allow you to craft the wedding you have been dreaming of.
